Criminals are ruining vulnerable people's lives with this cruel scam. Your information could make a difference.

What is courier fraud?

Its a scam where criminals pretend to be the police or the victim’s bank, tricking victims into providing banking details including cards, withdrawing cash, foreign currency or purchasing gold, watches or other expensive items.

Six signs to spot courier fraud

  • Calls claiming to be the bank or the police
  • Sudden claims of suspicious banking activity
  • Being asked for pin number or passwords
  • Requests for bank cards or cash as evidence
  • Victims forced to purchase high-end jewellery and goods
  • Couriers sent to collect cards, cash or bank details

What are the impacts?

Around 60% of victims are over 70 years old with an average loss of around £5000 per victim.  To the people targeted by courier fraud criminals, its devastating financially and emotionally.  Over £15 million was stolen in 2021.  For the crime gangs profiting, that money goes towards funding other crimes in the community.
